August 1997 TRENDS:

Wyoming's good news of a lower unemployment rate, down slightly from 4.4 percent in May to 4.3 percent in June (not seasonally adjusted, see Civilian Labor Force and Unemployment) was overshadowed by decreases in every other measure of labor market activity. Meanwhile, the labor force continued to lag behind its 1996 level (see Wyoming Economic Indicators) and nonagricultural employment was also down over the year (see Wyoming Nonagricultural Wage and Salary Employment). The declining labor force and employment were mirrored by decreases in the total number of unique Unemployment Insurance claimants (see Wyoming Unemployment Insurance Statistics: NORMALIZED Continued Claims) as well as by the number of unemployed (see Wyoming Economic Indicators). --DB
