The Figure, which has appeared in several of the past issues of Wyoming Labor Force Trends, illustrates the two employment series--the Local Area Unemployment Statistics (LAUS) and the Current Employment Statistics (CES)--produced in cooperation with the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). The LAUS employment series is derived from a household survey of Wyoming residents and reflects the number of employed individuals in the state. Each year, during benchmarking, this series is adjusted to an independent population control total provided by the Census Bureau. The administrative Internal Revenue Service (IRS) data featured in the Table are some of the data used by the Census Bureau in estimating Wyoming's population.

For additional information regarding these two employment series, please refer to the article entitled, "Employment Series Differences: Explanation and Interpretation," by David Bullard in the June 1998 issue of Trends.
