TRENDS:
Total Nonagricultural Employment continued to rise slowly, with an increase of 700 jobs (0.3%) from April 1997 to April 1998. Mining, Construction and Manufacturing all showed healthy growth while most of the service producing industries were flat. Unemployment Insurance (UI) initial and continued claims increased in Oil & Gas Extraction signalling a pattern of employment increases in some firms and layoffs in others within the same industry. The Wyoming unemployment rate dropped to 4.5 percent in April 1998 while the U.S. rate dropped even further to 4.1 percent. --DB
