TRENDS:
For the first time in several months, Wyoming's unemployment rate was higher than the U.S. rate
(4.6% compared to 4.4%). This highlights the fact that while the U.S. economy has
continued to show strong growth during 1997, Wyoming's has remained stagnant. This can be seen in the
declining labor force, and is also confirmed by recently released
Census Bureau figures showing that
3,398 more people moved out of Wyoming
than moved in from July 1996 to July 1997. The number of total unique UI claimants
also declined from 1996 to 1997, lending further support to this idea. --DB
