TRENDS:
The Wyoming economy sent mixed signals in March. For the first time in over a year, initial unemployment claims showed over-the-year growth (4.5%). Total Nonagricultural employment grew 0.3 percent over the year. Most of this growth came from the goods producing sector (1,200 new jobs or 3.1% growth over the year). However, other indicators were negative. The service producing industries which have been growing steadily since 1987, showed a decline in employment over the year of 500 jobs or -0.3 percent. Also, continued UI claims lagged behind their 1997 levels. --DB
