TRENDS:
Nonagricultural employment continued to grow at a slow, but steady pace, adding 1,200 jobs over the year (0.5%). The goods producing sector, which only employs one-fifth of Wyoming's workers, accounted for half of the new jobs. Wyoming's two Metropolitan Statistical Areas (MSA's) continued to experience stronger growth than the state. The Casper MSA (Natrona County) added 1,300 new jobs, giving it a growth rate of 4.3 percent, while the Cheyenne MSA (Laramie County) added 800 for 2.3 percent job growth. The unemployment rate, already low at 3.8 percent, dropped even further to 3.6 percent. This compared favorably with the U.S. unemployment rate (4.4%). Labor force (as measured by the Local Area Unemployment Statistics, LAUS, program) showed a healthy gain of 2.7 percent. --DB
