July 1998 TRENDS:

Wyoming total nonagricultural wage and salary employment increased in month-to-month comparisons for the fifth month in a row (up 4.3% from April to May 1998). Laramie County nonagricultural employment increased for the first time since December 1997 in year-to-year comparisons (up 0.8% from May 1997 to 1998), while Natrona County increased for the seventeenth consecutive time (up 1.3% from May 1997 to 1998). Wyoming's labor force increased modestly in month-to-month comparisons (527 persons). Unemployment Insurance (UI) continued claims decreased in year-to-year comparisons for the seventeenth time in a row (down 13.4%); initial claims decreased also (down 14.2%). In other words, Wyoming's economy continues to show slight but definite improvement. --GCE
