As was discussed in last month's article on "Employment Series Differences," the Current Employment Statistics (CES) and Local Area Unemployment Statistics (LAUS) programs count employment differently. However, the gaps can be explained by what each one does or does not count every month, as can be seen in the Figure. For example, "the CES program counts each job once, while the LAUS program counts each individual once." For further information, please refer to the article "Employment Series Differences," in the June 1998 issue of Trends.
