This industry is projected to employ 10,519 by the year 2006.

Local Government is projected to decline 11.8 percent by the year 2006. This will be a loss of 1,408 jobs. The wages for the top employing occupations are average for the state of Wyoming. One of the primary reasons for the decline in Local Government can be directly linked to over spending by the local governments in past years combined with current and projected cutbacks in federal funds.

SIC 94 includes public health agencies, state education departments, public welfare, unemployment insurance offices, and other state run public administration offices. Other major employing groups are SIC 92 and 95.

The wages for the top employing occupations are a little above the average for the state of Wyoming. Currently, State Government is streamlining and is projected to continue this policy into the future.

Federal Government employed 6,458 individuals in 1996 and is anticipated to employ 6,235 individuals by the year 2006. The three major employing groups are SIC 95, SIC 97, and TCPU (Transportation, Communications, & Public Utilities). One of the primary reasons for the high employment in TCPU in Federal Government is due to United States Postal Service.

The decline is due to cut backs of personnel in an attempt to balance the federal budget.
