In Northwest Region of Wyoming, the three largest industries in 1994 were: Services (6,962 jobs), Retail Trade (6,634 jobs) and Local Government (6,330 jobs). This represented three-fifths of the total covered employment in the Northwest Region: Services (21.2%), Retail Trade (20.2%) and Local Government (19.3%). In comparing 1990 and 1994 data, three industries with the largest increases were: Services (2.1%), Retail Trade (1.2%) and Construction (1.0%). The two industries with the largest decreases are Local Government (-1.3%) and Mining (-1.6%).

Big Horn County was dominated primarily by Local Government (28.8% or 955 jobs) and Retail Trade (16.6% or 550 jobs) in 1994. Retail Trade increased by 1.0 percent while Local Government remained about the same from 1990 to 1994. In comparison to statewide percentage data, Local Government was larger (28.8%) compared to Wyoming statewide (16.2%). An important decrease in Big Horn County was found in Manufacturing: from 12.0 percent (385 jobs) in 1990 to 7.9 percent (263 jobs) in 1994. A smaller decrease also occurred in Services, from 8.8 percent (281 jobs) in 1990 to 7.6 percent (254 jobs) in 1994.

Services (23.9% or 3,055 jobs), Retail Trade (20.9% or 2,668 jobs) and Local Government (19.5%) were Fremont County's largest industries in 1994. From 1990 to 1994, there were very small increases in these three industries. State Government decreased from 8.6 percent of covered employment (1,010 jobs) in 1990 to 7.8 percent (996 jobs) in 1994. State Government made up 5.6 percent of the covered workforce in Wyoming in 1994 while Fremont County was slightly higher proportionately with 7.8 percent. Services accounted for 23.9 percent of employment in this county compared to 20.3 percent statewide.

Hot Springs County’s largest industries in 1994 were: Services (26.8% or 557 jobs), Local Government (20.0% or 415 jobs) and Retail Trade (17.3% or 359 jobs). Services grew 4.8 percent (137 jobs) from 1990 to 1994, and Retail Trade increased 1.1 percent (49 jobs). Local Government decreased 3.6 percent over the same period and was 3.8 percent above statewide proportions, while Retail Trade was 3.2 percent below.

Park County’s largest three industries by covered employment were fairly evenly distributed in 1994: Services (22.7% or 2,509 jobs), Retail Trade (21.9% or 2,420 jobs) and Local Government (17.4% or 1,925 jobs). Park County had a slightly larger proportion of covered employees in Services (2.4%) and Local Government (1.2%) than Wyoming as a whole. On the other hand, the Retail Trade industry for this county was lower than statewide by 1.4 percent. From 1990 to 1994 within Park County, Services and Retail Trade increased (3.8% and 2.7%, respectively). In contrast, Local Government declined by 2.6 percent, a loss of 20 jobs.

The largest industries in Washakie County in 1994 were: Retail Trade (17.9% or 637 jobs), Services (16.5% or 587 jobs) and Local Government (15.1% or 540 jobs). Services increased from 404 jobs (12.8%) in 1990 and Local Government decreased from 580 jobs (18.4%).
