Horse Racing Personnel

SOC Code: 39-2021

All of the following occupations require a license if they are to be performed at a licensed race track in Wyoming. Everyone who works in any capacity at one of these tracks must be licensed by the Pari-Mutuel Commission.


Job Description

Assistant Starter - Assists starter.
Concession Employee - Works for concession operator.
Groom - Grooms race horses.
Mutuel Employee - Sells betting tickets.
Permittee Employee - Works for race track performing maintenance, security, groundskeeper, etc.
Security - Provides security at race track.


Requirements

1.  Must be at least 16 years of age, except for Mutuel Employee and Security which must be at least 19.
2.  Must be in good standing and not under suspension.


School Located in Wyoming

No specialized training is required for the above occupations.

Job Description

  
Agent - Acts as agent in booking mounts for jockey.
  
Concession Operator - Operates concession and food service at race track.
  
Horseman's Bookkeeper - Paymaster of purses; processes jockey payroll.
  
Mutuel Official - Oversees Pari-Mutuel Department.
  
Out Rider - Leads post parade to starting gate.
  
Owner - Owns race horses.
  
Permittee Official - Officiates races in Wyoming.
  
Plater - Shoes horses at race track.
  
Pony Rider - Accompanies race horse to starting gate.
  
Racing Secretary - Writes races and approves horses.
  
Roper - Participates in approved Pari-Mutuel roping events.
  
Starter - Dispatches field of horses from gate.
  
Veterinarian Assistant - Assists veterinarian.

1.Must be at least 16 years of age.
  
2.Must be in good standing and not under suspension.

Exercise Rider - Works race horses in morning workout.
Jockey - Rides race horses.
Owner/Trainer - Owns and trains race horses.
Trainer - Trains race horses.


Requirements

1.  Must be at least 16 years of age, except for Trainer which must be at least 19.
2.  Must be in good standing and not under suspension.
3.  Must pass examination.
