Job Description

"Correctional officer" means a person who is employed by the Wyoming Department of Corrections on a full-time basis to care for, supervise, and maintain custody of persons confined in Wyoming Department of Corrections institutions.


Requirements

1.  Must be a United States citizen.
2.  Must be of majority age.
3.  Must be a high school graduate or equivalent.
4.  Must pass a background investigation. 
5.  Must be free of physical, medical, and emotional problems.
6.  Must pass an oral interview.
7.  All Wyoming Correctional Officers must attend a Commission-approved academy for basic training.
 

Restrictions
Candidates may not have been convicted of felonies nor serious misdemeanors.

License
All Correctional Officers must receive a Peace Officers Standards and Training Certificate to become certified as correctional officers.


Examination

Candidates will be expected to pass written, oral, psychological, medical and drug screening. Polygraph testing and physical agility testing may be performed. Testing is commenced as positions become available.
