Job Description
Law Enforcement Officers are responsible for enforcing laws and maintaining order. Their principal duties are to protect life and property, prevent crimes, investigate complaints and crimes, apprehend and arrest violators, and assist in their prosecution.

Requirements
1.  Must be a United States citizen.
2.  Must be at least 23 years of age.
3.  Must be a high school graduate or equivalent.
4.  Must have a minimum vision of 20/100 binocular acuity, uncorrected, and be correctable to 20/20 in each eye. 
5.  Must be free of physical, medical, and emotional problems.
6.  Must successfully pass an oral interview.
7.  Must pass a background investigation.
8.  Must pass the various examinations listed below.
9.  All recruit Wyoming Highway Patrol Officers must complete a Peace Officers Standards and Training Commission Basic Course and a Wyoming Highway Patrol Basic Academy Course before they will be commissioned as Patrol Officers.

Restrictions
Candidates may not have been convicted of felonies nor serious misdemeanors.
Bad driving records and/or a number of preventable traffic accidents (as the driver) are also serious limiting factors.

School Located in Wyoming
Wyoming Highway Patrol Officers are given Highway Patrol and the Peace Officers Standards and Training Basic Courses at the Wyoming Law Enforcement Academy in Douglas, Wyoming.

License
All Wyoming Highway Patrol Officers must receive a certificate of successful completion of the Peace Officers Standards and Training Basic Course. Wyoming Highway Patrol Officers must also receive a certificate of successful completion of the Wyoming Highway Patrol Basic Academy Course.

Examination
Wyoming Highway Patrol Officers are screened for suitability by successful completion of the following examination phases:  
Written, Oral, Visual Acuity, Physical Agility, Psychological, Medical and Drug Screening. Candidates are ranked by their overall suitability from these examinations, as well as background investigation. Recruit Patrol Officers are selected from an eligibility list.

The testing process commences when positions become available.

Fees
No fees are required. Recruit Patrol Officers are provided the necessary equipment and training without cost. Recruits receive salary while in training.
