1998 Industry Employment Projections for Wyoming

Data Produced by: Gregg Detweiler and Brett Judd

Industry projections or forecasts use historical data and mathematical models to produce estimates of how industry employment will change in the future. The "base" year is the one from which the projections begin. The "projected" year is the one which the estimates are made for, generally several years in the future. Here, the base year is 1994 and the projected year is 1998. The change between the base and projected year employment is also shown in the tables.

Historical employment data was obtained from the ES-202 (Covered Employment and Wages) for 1989 - 1994. Two mathematical models* were then applied to the data to produce estimates for 1995; since actual employment data were already available for 1995, this allowed the estimating process to be checked for accuracy ("validated"). Once validation was concluded, projections for 1998 were created.

These same methods were used to produce industry employment projections several years ago. Estimates were made for 1994 employment. The 1994 estimates proved to be very accurate, with two percent error or less for every industry.
