Wyoming Covered Employment

The Major Groups of Agriculture, Forestry, & Fishing

The majority of this industry is found in SIC 02, Agricultural Production - Livestock & Animal Specialties. This is due to the large number of sheep and cattle ranches relative to the rest of the Agriculture, Forestry, and Fishing Industry. Therefore, it should come as no surprise that SIC 07 Agricultural Services, is the second largest section within this division. Agricultural Services include such things as: veterinarians, game processing, lawn and garden services, breeding, grooming, and kennels. The majority of this industry is not covered by Unemployment Insurance, therefore the total figures are much lower than what exists in the state. Only 35 percent of Agriculture is covered employment.

The Table above shows the top 15 employing occupations within Agriculture, Forestry, & Fishing. Many agricultural occupations are not surveyed during the Wyoming wage survey, therefore we don’t have either an entry or skilled wage for those occupations. This industry is expected to grow 20.9 percent by the year 2006. But due to the small number of employment within this industry, a 20.9 percent growth rate will not constitute a large increase in the number of jobs.
