Job Description
Mental health professionals specialize in the application of counseling and psychological theory as well as methods to treat and prevent psychosocial dysfunction, disability, or impairment. This dysfunction may be cognitive, affective, or behavioral, including but not limited to interpersonal, intra personal, ecological, and systems effectiveness. They provide assessment, diagnosis and treatment for the benefit of individuals, families, groups, organizations, schools, and communities. These services involve appraisal, psychotherapy, problem solving, counseling, advocacy, consultation, and referral follow-up activity.

Requirements
1.  Age of majority.
2.  Hold a Bachelor's degree (for certification) or Master’s or Doctorate degree (for licensure) in the appropriate field of mental health from a nationally or regionally accredited graduate program.
3.  Have accumulated 3,000 hours of supervised clinical experience.
4.  Pass a nationally recommended examination accepted by the Board.
5.  For specific requirements for each occupation, contact the Wyoming Mental Health Professions Licensing Board.

Restrictions
The failure to abide by the ethical standards adopted by the profession. (Unprofessional conduct)

License
The above mental health professionals engaged in practice are licensed by the Wyoming Mental Health Professions Licensing Board.

Examination
Examinations will be offered a minimum of twice per year. The following exams are accepted by the Board: National Board for Certified Counselors’ Counselor Certification; Association of Social Work Boards; Association of Marital and Family Therapists Licensing Boards; and National Association of Drug and Alcohol Abuse Counselors.
