WYOMING LABOR FORCE TRENDS

Vol. 44 No. 7

Workers Marginally Attached to Labor Force Decline

The number of people who were marginally attached to the United States labor force declined from an estimated 1.6 million in June 2006 to 1.5 million in June 2007. Those people include an estimated 401,000 discouraged workers, down from 481,000 a year earlier. Discouraged workers are those who are not currently looking for work specifically because they believe no jobs are available for them. The remaining 1.1 million had not searched for work in the previous 4 months for reasons such as family responsibilities, but wanted jobs and were available, and had searched for work in the previous 12 months.
