In Wyoming, 2.7% Earned Minimum Wage or Below in 2005

According to the December 2006 issue of Monthly Labor Review, 2.7% of Wyoming workers earned the prevailing minimum wage of $5.15 or below in 2005. That percentage is slightly higher than the U.S. average of 2.5%, and below the average of 3.0% for the 8-state Mountain Division. Within the division, Wyoming ranked third lowest in percentage of workers paid at or below minimum wage. In contrast, 82.9% of Wyoming workers earned wages at or above $7.15 per hour, compared to 85.1% of the national workforce.

Nationally, Alaska had the lowest percentage of workers at minimum wage or below (0.5%). Louisiana and West Virginia each had 4.3%, the highest percentages in the nation. Alaska also had the highest proportion of workers earning $7.15 or more (96.1%).
