AVERAGE QUARTERLY WAGE BY INDUSTRY, NUMBER OF EMPLOYEES AND FIRMS (includes Table)

(An addendum to "One-Third of Wyoming Employment Found in Small Businesses" from the January 1996 issue of Wyoming Labor Force Trends)
by: Mike Evans and Carol Toups

The largest number of firms occurs in the small firm size class of one to four employees at 46.7 percent of the total number of firms, with the greatest number of employees in the small and large firm size in Laramie and Natrona Counties (refer to "Figure 1: Average Monthly Employment for Small Versus Large Firms for First Quarter 1995" in the January 1996 issue of Trends). The smallest number of firms happens in the large firm size class of 20 or more employees (excepting the zero size class). The smallest number of employees occurring in both the small and large firm size categories are located in Crook, Johnson, Weston, Sublette and Niobrara Counties.

Lower wages for the second quarter of 1995 occurred in the small firm size class with fewer employees in the Agriculture industry, along with Retail Trade, regardless of the firm size class. Also, wages are lower in Crook and Albany Counties among small firms (refer to "Figure 2: Average Monthly Wage for Small Versus Large Firms for First Quarter 1995" in the January 1996 issue of Trends). The larger firm size class has lower wages in Goshen and Hot Springs Counties; however, Hot Springs and Teton Counties, as well as Nonclassified firms, have higher wages in the small firm size category. The highest wages occur in the Mining industry in the larger firm size class in Sweetwater and Campbell Counties.
