COMPARISON OF THE INDUSTRIES OF WYOMING AND THE UNITED STATES

Retail Trade, Services, Local Government and Mining made up the bulk of covered employment in Wyoming in 1994 according to data from the ES-202 (Covered Employment and Wages); on the other hand, Services, Retail Trade, Manufacturing and Local Government were the major employing industries in the United States. Manufacturing is proportionally smaller in covered employment in Wyoming (4.8%) than in the United States (16.3%) while Local Government is proportionally larger in Wyoming (16.2%) than in the United States (10.0%). In addition, Mining makes up a large percentage of covered employment in Wyoming (8.5%) and a very small percentage in the United States (0.5%). In fact, Wyoming was the top coal-producing state in the country in 1994.
