Resume Checklist
Is your resume:
- Typed and neatly spaced?
- Clean?
- On high quality paper?
- Free of abbreviations?
- Free of spelling errors?
- Factually correct?
Presenting Your Resume
- If you don't deliver your resume in person, you should enclose a typed cover letter stating why you are submitting your resume to this particular company, a brief summary of your qualifications and your appreciation of the employer's review of your resume.
- If you don't receive a response to your resume within five business days, you should follow up on your resume with a telephone call to the employer.
- If you do receive an interview, congratulations! As soon as you have completed your interview, send the employer a short, neatly hand-written or typed letter stating your thanks for the opportunity to interview with the company and reaffirming your interest in working there.
Chronological Resume:
- Starts with most recent employment and works back.
- Includes general personal and educational information.
- Traditional type of resume.
- Advantage: Easy to follow.
- Disadvantage: Does not emphasize special knowledge of job you are applying for.
- One or two pages in length.
Targeted Resume:
- Organized by topics, regardless of time.
- Focuses on accomplishments and capabilities particular to a certain job or field.
- Advantage: Shows employer your knowledge that is important for that particular job.
- Disadvantage: Requires more research of job you are applying for.
- One or two pages in length.
